First and foremost, I'm a huge fan of Tolkien's works (PJ's movies were pretty good, too). Other favorite fandoms are both Stargate series, Buffy, Babylon 5, and Have Gun Will Travel (nowhere near enough fanfic in this one). I absolutely LOVE a well thought out crossover, with all of the characters in voice. I'm no great shakes as a writer myself, but it is fun to give it a shot when the mood strikes.
Though I'm no linguist or expert, I can also help with Sindarin Elvish translations and Tengwar transcriptions. "Grelvish" is on the top of my pet peeve list, along with folks who can't be bothered to research whatever fandom they're writing in. Here is a short list of resources for Tolkien's Elvish languages.
Dragonflame, a downloadable, searchable interactive dictionary that even has tengwar transcription of the words. http://www.jrrvf.com/hisweloke/sindar/df20.html
Ardalambion, a site with articles, essays and links to other sites. This is the best Elvish language site out there, in my opinion. http://www.jrrvf.com/hisweloke/sindar/df20.html
The Council of Elrond site has complete lessons for both Sindarin and Quenya, as well as links to other sites. http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/
Orchyd Constyne's site, Hîth a Naur, has several lists of individual phrases that are highly useful for authors of fan fiction, particularly of the slash variety. http://www.hithanaur.net/elvish.cfm
I'm also going to take the opportunity to recommend an amazing story on another site. This is the best fan fic I've ever had the pleasure to read, the author really gets into the psyche of the characters and her insight is amazing. It's a Stargate fic, Jack/Daniel pairing. Warning, it is a slash story (male/male sex) and is explicit in parts.
