I really have to say that I like how you wrote this. On the show itself, I always felt that something was pulling Ames and max together (not in a romantic sense, but in a kind of flup sides of a count sense). Fated enemies and all that I suppose, and Ray seemed to have been the thing that really got them going. It makes sense for Ames to ask Max to take care of his child. Like you said he knows they both want the same thing.
