Wonderful. You caught both Faith and Buffy perfectly. Both sad and hopeful. You could view it as an AU: that this was the conversation that meant that Faith didn't go over to the dark side, or, more poignant: canon compliant. That even this wasn't enough of a reason for Faith, after accidentally killing the Mayor's aide. That she'd tried to find something to grab on to, something to give her meaning, but in the end it just wasn't enough. Just a lovely story.
