Review of chapter "War Drums" from RevDorothyL
Review:
Very effective! Love the nuances, especially, in the Doctor's interactions with Buffy (including the Captain Jack insinuations, bless his gorgeous little heart).
Comments from author:
I'm starting to think I like the interactions between Buffy and the Doctor more than Buffy and Jack. Probably because I haven't let those two have a long scene together yet. ;) Thank you for taking the time to review!

There was another song that the Master played and identified with and that was "I Can't Decide" by the Scissor Sisters. It is Brilliant-funny and excellent to listen to.

Here are the lyrics:

"It's not easy having yourself a good time
Greasing up those bets and betters
Watching out they don't four-letter
Fuck and kiss you both at the same time
Smells-like something I've forgotten
Curled up died and now it's rotten

I'm not a gangster tonight
Don't want to be a bad guy
I'm just a loner baby
And now you're gotten in my way

I can't decide
Whether you should live or die
Oh, you'll probably go to heaven
Please don't hang your head and cry
No wonder why
My heart feels dead inside
It's cold and hard and petrified
Lock the doors and close the blinds
We're going for a ride

It's a bitch convincing people to like you
If I stop now call me a quitter
If lies were cats you'd be a litter
Pleasing everyone isn't like you
Dancing jigs until I'm crippled
Slug ten drinks I won't get pickled

I've got to hand it to you
You've played by all the same rules
It takes the truth to fool me
And now you've made me angry

I can't decide
Whether you should live or die
Oh, you'll probably go to heaven
Please don't hang your head and cry
No wonder why
My heart feels dead inside
It's cold and hard and petrified
Lock the doors and close the blinds
We're going for a ride

Oh I could throw you in the lake
Or feed you poisoned birthday cake
I wont deny I'm gonna miss you when you're gone
Oh I could bury you alive
But you might crawl out with a knife
And kill me when I'm sleeping
That's why

I can't decide
Whether you should live or die
Oh, you'll probably go to heaven
Please don't hang your head and cry
No wonder why
My heart feels dead inside
It's cold and hard and petrified
Lock the doors and close the blinds
We're going for a ride"

Wanted to share the happiness

Hmmm... the song that inspired these drabbles is called "Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums" by Perfect Circle. The song "Voodoo Child" by Rogue Traders is what was actually playing during the invasion of the Toclafane. Though I do adore the Scissor Sisters and was singing along with the Master as he was tormenting the Doctor. :)

"
The shudder returned, tightening his shoulders because, in that moment, Jack was more than certain he’d seen the briefest flash of jealousy in the Doctor’s gaze. "

----Aww! Because the Doctor is giving away a woman he may have been able to love forever to another man who'll live forever.

"The Doctor stepped up to the doors of the TARDIS and slipped the key in before turning what looked like a brass knob and pushing the door open. “Come now, people to see, places to meet.”

“Is this where I say, it’s bigger on the inside?”

“Oh, shut up.” "

---*giggle* Aww! I really want to read more of this! Buffy/Doctor is pretty Brilliant *heh* when written well, and this is one of them.
Comments from author:
I'm still unsure if the Doctor was jealous of Jack because he could see himself 'loving' Buffy or because Jack has gained someone in his life that is exactly like him when the Doctor has just lost his. Though the Doctor could still 'love' Buffy, but I doubt he'd ever allow himself the physical intimacy that comes along with it.

There's more. I've just got to turn the outlines into actual ficlets. Thank you for taking the time to review!

I liked this a lot. So much said in so few words and the interactions Buffy had with each Who character were so simple, yet effective in conveying so much.

All your character voices were great. You 'caught' The Master perfectly I think. (Oddly enough, for a bad guy, I kinda like him. He isn't just a run-of-the-mill, evil person, but also brilliantly devious and kinda kooky).
Comments from author:
Thank you! The drabbles are fun and a pain to write since I tend to go deep into description to set up a scene but I really can't in these. As for character voice this is my first long-ish attempt at the Who'verse with more to come but it's good to know that I portrayed them accurately.

I adored the Master, of course his singing along with the Scissor Sisters might have helped endear him to me. I like the bad guys and more often than not I want the bad guys to win - which explains some of my stories I think. Thank you for taking the time to review!

Fabulous! First I loved the Doctor's dressing down of Willow in the prequel ficlet. Second, what a marvelous job you did weaving Buffy into the story. You captured the crazed evil of the Master quite well, killing Buffy the first time, and his delight in knowing he'd be able to do it again, and again. Then poor Buffy, alone, in the dark, completely cut off aside from the sound of those drums. Goes to show the girl is tough that she didn't break there. I liked the glimpses of interaction between her and Lucy. I loved it though when the Master ordered Buffy to kill Martha and his surprise when she refused. Not that he was surprised enough to miss the chance to kill her again, but I like that he just expected Buffy to do what he said and when that didn't work that the threat would do the trick. Nice to see the Master not getting his way. I loved the bit when Buffy came back the last time with the Doctor and reassured her that the drums were gone forever. Had a squeal at Jack noticing a bit of jealousy when the Doctor introduced him to Buffy. Finally, LOVED Buffy asking to go with the Doctor. Loved it! Love him agreeing to take her, her wanting to go past, future, where ever they may roam. Maybe some more drabbles later with the Doctor and Buffy adventures?
Comments from author:
In all fairness to Willow she couldn’t have predicted that Buffy would come back as a fact. Of course raising the dead isn’t something anyone should do, but if she hadn’t we wouldn’t still have Buffy. ;)

I was nervous about the Master. He’s a different type of villain from the ones I’m use to mucking around with. He’s much more intellectual and devious. I think that’s what makes him so damn interesting.

Oh, she’s broken. I don’t think anyone could survive that kind of torture for a year and not go a little nuts. Which is one of the main reasons I wanted Buffy to go with the Doctor afterwards rather than stay in Cardiff with Jack. She’s not ready for that kind of a relationship; she needs friendship at the moment and support. Things the Doctor can supply in abundance as long as she behaves.

The jealousy moment is a toss up for me. I’m not sure if it’s because Jack has found someone just like him when the Doctor has lost his or if he know that a bond will form between the pair that reminds him of his relationship with Rose. It’s a conundrum.

I wanted Buffy to ask and not the Doctor to ask Buffy. I wanted it to be completely her choice and I can see her needing a break from Willow’s cookies and Giles’s silent stares. Poor thing.

Very nice!

I had read the prequel and it's sequel before but didn't remember them until I re-read them just now. Once you read the two these ones tie in nicely.

Strange, even though it's set during tLotTL, I still kept picturing Christopher Eccleston instead of David Tennant. I knew it should be 10 instead of 9, but couldn't seem to keep his image in mind when reading it.
Comments from author:
Thank you!

The previous drabbles I think help set up this series or at least the Willow centered one does since it explains Buffy being a fact and the Buffy/Jack one takes place after this series.

Hmmm… In the Willow/Doctor drabble it was Nine but in these it’s suppose to be Ten. Did I make it sound too Nine? Darn.

Nice. Could do with a bit more explanation but otherwise I liked it.
Comments from author:
Thank you. As much fun as it is to try and pack as much emotion as you can into 100 or 200 words sometimes the plot gets a little lost. Though I do have hopes for continuing this series but in ficlet and story form so there’ll be more room for exposition. Glad you enjoyed the little snippets anyway.
