Do you know how they celebrate Western New Year in China? In many Chinese cities thousands of people grab an inflatable plastic mallet a few cans of silly string and has at it. Last time I went i ended up covered head to toe in silly string. Perhaps Su could take Harry one year. I don't know if they do it in Hong Kong but artistic license and all that. Erumpet shen me? I'm assuming its a magical creature i haven't run in to yet. Luna using Daphne as a Pillow was fantastic.
The schools Lily is thinking of sending Harry to; is it Crowley as in Alistair 'do what thou whilst is the whole of the law' Crowley?. I'm assuming the Asian wizarding community mirrors the muggle world. I have no problem with a Korean Academy being the premier wizarding school. But the European wizarding community has Hogwarts Beaubaxtons and Durmstrag that we know of and the European population is maybe a third of the combined populations of the countries you mention the Korean Academy serving. From what I can tell Chinese people and Korean people get on fairly well. I don't want to stereotype an entire culture but aren't the Japanese at least a little bit prejudiced towards the Koreans and Chinese? Korea was a Japanese colony up until the end of WWII and the Chinese and Korean anger at the atrocities the Japanese committed still festers and boils up now and again. There is certainly a lot of Chinese/Japanese Korean/Japanese. Hostility I could see Japanese or Chinese parents sending their kids to a Korean School if it truly was better, but not to have a school of their own at all seems a little unlikely. (Tell me if I'm over-thinking this.)
Loved Harry getting a bit of his own back by teasing Hermione. The Countryside on the way to Scotland is bland is it? Thems fightin' words. Don't make me reach for the Shakespeare. i can be reciting John of Gaunt's death bed speech from Richard II, Act 2, Scene 2 in five seconds flat. Although a bit of Henry V "Cry God for Harry, England and Saint George" might fit in well in this story. (Rant over we now return you to your regularly scheduled review.)
Your Illyria remains fantastic. I love the directness of her problem solving. Not sure what to make of Blaise yet, apart from the scheming. Can't wait for the next chapter.

British English Notes: Lily should have some bargaining chips ready before next Autumn, not Fall. English schools have years not grades.

Hermione's consternation remains amusing to watch. I liked the detail of the Holyhead Harpies couple, it adds real texture to the world. The story Harry spins about Þrúðr being in his head sounds plausible. James Potter's foot must live in his mouth. If the memories from his last visit to the Greengrass Estate is a representative sample of the stuff harry has been through then maybe it'll do him good to see this Mind-Healer. But please tell me he didn't actually let Astoria torture and or kill Malfoy. Cause wouldn't that fuck her up more than the attempted rape already had? Oh, and Luna giving Harry a butter-bear cork necklace was unbelievably cute.

British English Note: Harry should threaten not to lend his Nimbus to Jasmine for the rest of the Holidays not vacation.

I'm Giving it an 8 just for Luna. What's harry thinking, why would you want a saner Ms. Lovegood? The eccentricities are what makes her interesting. I love the devious method in her madness. Please, please, please tell me the Comma Sutra is a real book. I hope we get to meet Selene Lovegood in the near future. I wanna know where Luna gets it from. Lily is officially the coolest Mum ever. Great to see more Illyria and yet another version of Oriens. ah, the comic potential of having a parent who looks younger than you are. I do hope they get to be friends with Harry eventually.

For the general edification when British police arrest someone they say: _____ I am arresting you for _____. You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence.

Although it's often said that Britain doesn't have a constitution or has an unwritten constitution. The truth is there are several written statutes which could be described as constitutional. The problem is that British government is founded on the principle that Parliament can make and unmake any law it wants. That's the best explanation I can give without charts and an easel.

His friends call him Odd. So do the rest of us. Great line. Rose is dubious also of the good. You can call a Full English a Full Monty, which is a more common usage than the one used in the film. Sirius wrapping Cassie up was a stroke of brilliance as was Harry explaining Jasmine's feelings about Hermione. And harry falling at Luna's feet rounded the chapter off nicely.

I wish we could have had a bit more time with Li Su at the beginning of the chapter, but soaking Harry did tickle my funny bone. Grammatical point it should be she was on the inside as well and not her was on the inside as well. Hermione seems to have gotten over her admiring Harry from afar phase. I loved the whole game, but the highlights were Hermione getting to injure not one but three people and Lee Jordan's commentary and then its rounded off by a nice dose of the 'rents embarrassing harry and Hermione. Another great chapter.

Reply to Lilly: Einstein's day job was a clerk in a patent office. I like your take on the character and I'd like to see her appear often in the future. I'd like to get the chance to cast some particularly complex or heavy duty magic. I just don't want you to think about letting her do something like that and then don't do it because she's been to busy looking after the kids to keep her spells up to scratch.

Reply to Chinese: I don't want to bang on about this because it would detract from a wonderful story and I don't want you misuse time better spent writing. Honzi/Hanzi refers to Chinese characters in general (both simplified and traditional) so you are perfectly entitled to use it. However if you do want to refer particularly to traditional characters, which is the kind anyone brought up in Hong Kong would know, you should use fan ti zi, the Cantonese pronunciation is faan tai zi.

Hey nonny nonny, there are singing snakes. Lara is an OC, isn't she? Can't wait to find out what her mysterious talents are. And watching Neville get beaten up still isn't getting old. I hope it never does. I love Lilly she's possibly the best mum ever. Hot chocolate indeed. I'm eagerly anticipating harry dealing with his three marriage contracts especially Luna's.

British English Notes: Neville should know Harry's surname by now not his last name. Su should get back from holiday not vacation. Harry should deposit his mother in the front garden not the front yard.

Review of chapter "Samhuinn" from laoshi

Lilly had a conversation with Mrs. Black a few chapters back about Charms which would seem to indicate she's still keeping abreast of recent magical developments. So being merely a housewife might be a little unjustified. You call the Philosopher's stone the Sorcerer's Stone again. If you want to be especially correct it should be an historic mid-term run. Is Harry really not going to pursue Hermione because of stuff from the other universe? The Malfoy's broom line made me chuckle as did Harry's fleeing from the talk: run, man, run! The name Greengrass brings up old memories for me. When I was growing up their was a British TV show called Heartbeat. It was about a Bobbie who worked for the Met in the sixties he gets injured in a riot and posted to rural Yorkshire. Claude Greengrass was the local small time crook who was always trying to sell things that had fallen off the back of a lorry. Great fight with the trolls. Can you give us a translation for the Old Norse Harry was using in his spells? I loved the way Hermione and her dad react in the aftermath.

Chinese note: It should be han zi not honzi, you can write it all as one word if you want. For greater clarity you should distinguish between Jian hua han zi (which is usually shortened to jian hua zi) or fan ti zi. Jian hua zi is the system of simplified characters used throughout mainland China. Fan ti zi refers to the traditional and more complex characters. Fan ti zi is still the dominant system in Hong Kong and Taiwan and since the wizarding world is traditionalist, it is more likely that Li Su would be using fan ti zi. I'm 90% sure water is actually the same four stroke symbol in both systems.

British English Note: Dumbledore has a sweets collection not a candy collection. Also what do you mean when Harry calls Neville a chub? Do you mean he's chubby? If memory serves the playground slang for that is chubber-chub.

I'd give this chapter an 8 just for the Good Evening Angels line. It's comic gold.

Just because you can read a magazine doesn't mean you're not a housewife. She's got five kids that she stays home to watch. She's Molly Weasley with a higher IQ and Molly is most definitely a housewife.

Chinese:
Han zi is the Mandarin version; every single Cantonese site I found including Wikipedia presented it as honzi. Until I find a native of Hong Kong to reinforce my linguistic and culture problems, I'm going to stick with the same "Learn Cantonese" site I use to work Su's spellcrafting.

The DLP situation makes me want to believe in Karma. Anyway, on with the review. Hermione should get to hit someone every chapter Malfoy then Longbottom, then Malfoy, then Longbottom... You obviously have access to sources I don't so, canonically has the really never been a muggleborn quidditch player at Hogwarts or is it something you made up for this fic?
LUNA, yay! And she's bringing the craziness already. I can't wait to her and her friend Lara show up for real later on. Your doing great job of not making the philosopher's stone to easy for Harry to get. Speaking of which you do call it the sorcerer's stone at one point.

More great Harry/Daphne interaction. Um, a grammatical mistake i think the clause should read ...Harry doubted Hermione's sense of aesthetics was well developed enough to override her indignation at him... Harry's trap for Snape was as disturbing as it was amusing. Vie le Pranks! I'm sure If Victory is Harry's, then Snape's uppance will come. Can't wait to see what kind of keeper Hermione will make.

The Alcoholic gag was a nice way to start off as was Wanda's superhero ambitions being shot down. I'm lovin' the way Neville keeps getting assaulted. First Hermione kicks his teeth in then Daphne's hex then harry zaps him. Let us have more of it. You've done a great job of creating a character its a pleasure to see humiliated. Does harry mean to call Neville a twit or a twat? because twat is a much stronger insult. Pointless trivia fact for today. Policemen are called Bobbies in England because the Prime Minster who passed the legislation which established them as an organisation was called Robert Peele. I'm still enjoying the Harry/Daphne dynamic. Ah,the wonders of dimension travel; being patronised by someone six years your junior.
I know your not going to answer this but I'm asking anyway. What does Lilly's survival mean for Snape allegiances?

So a Sporty Hermione? Satan will be skating to work this morning, surely? Although an intellectual Ron is the truly terrifying thought.

British English Note: It's films not movies. Also we don't refer to football games as pickups mostly because nothing actually gets picked up. if you want to use a bit of football slang you could say having a kickabout or playing a bit of footie. Also bloody pathetic is a bit iffy: but I'm not sure what to suggest as an alternative.

Can I just mention I love all your stories featuring HP and Illyria and I promise to review Hp and the Shell of the God King ASAP. If Li Su and Hermione are going to become best friends you might want to know that Hermione in putonghua is he mei (pronounced like her may). No idea what it is in Guangdonghua. Liked Daphne's appearance in the chapter nice little anecdote about James Potter and her mum and I especially enjoyed the way she embarrasses harry. Make the boy suffer! Only in a Joehundredaire fic would you have the Scarlet Witch show up. Your work in general does have that wonderful WTF quality. I can't wait to see what you do with her and a female Blaise Zabini.

British English Note: Harry won't find out if Lucius is smart until the Autumn not the fall. When British people make fun of redheads the preferred term of abuse is Ginger, sometimes pronounced with a hard G like in Granger.

One last question: What kind of tradesmen were the Krams?
