I'm belatedly catching up on Thanksgiving updates, and was so pleased to read a new chapter of this, complete with brotherly bonding, Manticore murderer-executing, and Dawn in the 'home base' coordinator role.

I love this. Just got caught up, although you probably are going to have to bring Max in just so Dean can bitch her out because of the simple fact that neither Dean nor Sam are gonna let her treatment of Alex go. That is not in there make-up.
Plus you just know Dean and Sam both are gonna freak out when they find out about Ben.

I'm pleased they rescued the children. The loss of the youngest generation is a horrible tragedy but typical of Manticore.
I like the growing connection between the brothers. Alec is so in need of a family and the boys have room in their hearts for him.

Yay, mission accomplished and they are going home!!!!
I love the thought process Alec was having as he spent time and got to know his brothers a little bit more. I like that you added thoughts about Ben in there, I wounder if Alec will eventually tell Dean and Sam about Ben.
Loved the scene between Dawn and Alec. It was nice to know that he wasn't just trying to keep her out of harms way, and actually had a valid and good reason for leaving her back at home.
I hadn't expected a Biggs and Faith pairing, but I am looking forward to see how that goes!
I can't wait for more!!

Review of chapter "Discoveries" from
AlexisReview:
Some interesting character development in this chapter. I am sooo happy to see Alec given the chance to lead - too often on the show Max took centre stage and he didn't get a chance to shine, plus he's very passionate about saving the children. At first I was a little surprised that Max gave in without a fight but Alec's explaination makes sense to me - she would've run away from her responsibilities if she could.
Loved the bonding between the brothers!
Comments from author:
I'm not much of a Max fan and I don't want to bash characters if I can help it, so her lack of screen time is probably an effort to be kind to her. Besides, once you add the Winchesters in, I really don't think that Max could carry the story balanced with them. It has to be Alec or I don't think I could write it.
The Brothers Winchester are in excellent form in the chapter I just posted. Hope you enjoy!

LOVE the fact that Andrew is the one who ASSUMED there'd be very little ones (and planned appropriate cuisine for their comfort, enjoyment, and sustenance). Good on Andrew with the nurturing!
Comments from author:
This Andrew is a caretaker. He contributes in his own way toward saving the world, by keeping their warriors strong and making sure they have all of the supplies that they need. It's his job to see to their needs and I've decided that he would be able to do this well.

Sammy's got a girlfriend, na, na, na, na, naaaaaaa, naaaaaaaa....:)
He and Cassy are really cute together, and I can see that some serious fire is starting to burn between Dawn and Alec :)
Hope that if Alec chooses to do with the brothers, that Dawn doesn't stay behind...
Update soon :D
Comments from author:
Update is done! Dawn and Alec have some choices to make - should prove interesting in how they get to those choices...I hope!

JenaReview:
ohh, Sammy's got himself a girlfriend ;-)
Wow poor Alec, having to realize that Sam and Dean had died in the past.
I am wondering if Max is starting to see that Alec is more than she was giving him credit for. Especially, now that Buffy was so quick to realize that he was good at what he does and allow him to lead a team. I think that this experience is going to be good for Alec, give him a chance to be Alec but at the same time use what Manticore gave him, but for good.
I love Alec's deduction of how Alpha Dean is...yeah I can see Dean being the alpha of the alphas.
I don't know why the line 'add two and two and on occasion get five' is funny to me...but it is.
I love this story, I can't wait for more!!
Comments from author:
I get the strangest looks when I say "two plus two equals five" but that's okay. I always go back to a Babylon 5 episode where Marcus says about the three guards "if we just get rid of one of them, there will only be one left". His fellow captive says that where he comes from, one from three equal two. Marcus just tells him that where he comes from "is a far more interesting place." It just tickles me every time!
Glad you are enjoying - just posted the next chapter.

Review of chapter "Fire In The Hole!" from
PrincessTaiReview:
>>Sam’s eyes narrowed at Alec and Dawn could almost hear her friend call the transgenic out with just a look, but then Sam visibly reigned in his own newly developed big brother instincts and nodded his head in agreement to Alec’s terms.
It doesn't seem to take long for the Winchesters to develope those. Like ever. Protective instincts. Big brother ones. An extended big brother ones. Just snap and there ya go!
>>“Not at all,” Sam called as he met them in the hallway. “Alec McDowell is all yours.”
I think it was a good thing that it was Sam that did it at that moment. And Sam who did the pick-pocketing. I am sure Alec will here a bunch lectures of the life once and a while and soon, but the fact Sam was the one who did it and then, since Sam hasn't had a chance to 'claim' him as fully as Dean, shows the strength of his own acceptance of Alec. I don't think it would have worked out as well, elsewhere.
Comments from author:
I fully expect that the Winchesters have their own instinctual language - it's like 'pack' mentality. I had the image of Sam picking the old man's pocket in "Mystery Spot" over and over in my mind, so I knew with all of the practice he had then, he could definitely pick Alec's pocket!
Sam and Dean are very different people, so they leave their mark on the world differently...
Thank you for your feedback!

Review of chapter "Winchester Rules" from
PrincessTaiReview:
>>He refuses to back down. Good; means he’s strong. This should make things interesting for Sam.
Sammy is not weak Dean! :-P But he will be SUCH the middle child lol
I like the way he did it. Pure Dean through and through. And Sam. Alec won;t know what hit him.
But who was the 'bitch'? Max?
>The backseat’s not big enough and it’s not a good idea to put prisoners in the truck with the arsenal we carry around.”
LMAO. I want longer chapters!
And I do hope that your grandfather is all right.
Comments from author:
He wasn't saying that Sam is weak - he's just figuring that it'll be Sam's turn to play referee like he did for all of those years between John & Sam...
Yes, Max is the 'bitch,' according to Dean.
My grandfather is holding his own. Good days & bad days...He asked me to make him a lap blanket, so I picked out the yarn and a pattern the other day and plan to start it as soon as I finish the blanket that I'm currently working on. He never really asks for anything, so I want to make him something really special. Thank you for asking.

Review of chapter "Don't Touch Her!" from
PrincessTaiReview:
>>>Second, we’ve been running out of our own enemies to eradicate, so it’s either start picking fights or look for another dimension
>>>
“What the shit-fuck is going on over here, Dawn? You tell us to haul ass to Cleveland and it looks like Armageddon when we get here. Haven’t we had the discussion about you calling us before all hell breaks loose?”
LOL! :-D Dude, giggles galore over here. I love her blase way of answering him and answering all the key points. Such is the way of the Scoobs. And I always imagined older dawn being best at it :-D And Dean. I knew it's Dean before Dawn said it cause Sam would be calmer and use bigger words :-P
I was thinking it was don't touch dawn, although the threats to Alec did read that. I think it was good for the transgens to get it from the get go taht there are people who hurt as bad as they do, if not worse, but still want to help. You should a proper level of suspicion and a proper level of shock, enough to crack their shields without shattering their world views ... even more.
That said. Alec! THEY'LL WUVVLE YOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comments from author:
I agree - older Dawn has had more time to get used to not-reacting to the supernatural insanity of their lives...
Glad you enjoyed...thank you for letting me know!

LMAO! So, what is this? A sequal to the last story of Family?
Or is this something totally different. How do they know the Winchesters?
And yes. Yes, dean will have kittens. And quite possibly a cow .... lol
Comments from author:
This is a totally different story - I don't usually like to have too many open stories at a time, but this one just begged me to write it - the characters wouldn't leave my head!
I couldn't resist the "kittens" comment, especially since Alec is part cat...

Review of chapter "Papa Winchester" from
PrincessTaiReview:
Okay. I just read the second half of this (still have to read the rest of the six and a half) but it made me VERY happy. I HAD to read this when you mentioned it. I must of read what you said wrong, because I thought it was just Btvs/DA but I love that this had SPN in it. Gah! Johnny. When you think he doesn't know his boys. That is SO something he would say. And Mary will be DELIGHTED with Alec absolutely so. I wanted to snuggle him! LOL Both Daddy and Junior. And Dean and Sam, lol. Deans so likes to be Alpha, and that is exactly how they would have reacted to the people who hurt their baby brother. Oh Alec and Ben so needed fams. I loved them so. And the only familes better than the Winchester in adopting and giving the smackdown to those who hurt theirs are the Halliwells, the Summers, and the Kents ... except you know Clark's the only one capable of giving the smackdown. Unless it's a slash and then Lex can do it too. But I am getting out of hand lol.
Damn the fact that I have papers and chemsitry or else I would skip lunch and do this all in one sitting. I so wonder who Faith will have! Opportunities are endless.
Do you watch Charmed? Or Smallville? I would so love to see your takes on how they'd make new families. Such concepts always appealed to me in crossovers, the families, the connections they could make and have. Yes the enemies, but still, with the good comes the intriguing bad ... that gets the smackdown :-D
EDIT: And oh yes. The shit that goes through Dawns head ... at least it didn't come outta her mouth lol
Comments from author:
It starts just DA/BtVS, but then I had an idea on how to bring SPN in and ran with it...the other one that I am just starting is DA/BtVS with no plans to add SPN in (so far)...
I don't want to give too much away, so I'll e-mail you something about your comment about Alec & Ben needing families...
I'll just try not to think about the fact that I'm corrupting a good student with fanfiction...:)
I watched Charmed and prefer the ones in later seasons. I really liked Season 6 (with Chris). I do watch Smallville, but have only done so for the last few years, so I'm not up on the early seasons. I love making family connections, so as long as I can make it work, the more the merrier (wait until you see all of the connections I have going in later chapters of What Makes a Family - only three fandoms and they are still interconnected everywhere!)
Dawn's head is a scary place. So is mine, though...:)
Thanks for reading & reviewing!

Now I am going to have to go and rewatch DA ... not that's ever bad :-D
Comments from author:
My DVR deleted a bunch of the eps that I had saved for some ($*)#($*& reason, so now I have to either wait for them to come on sci-fi channel again, find the DVDs that are somewhere in my condo or break down and buy another copy...
