Review of chapter "A Family Affair" from
IrisWoodReview:
ok......... as happy as i am to have found this story, and how much overall i am enjoying reading it, i am ready to stop reading it. The many things i like about A Drop in the Ocean are now being out weighed by a general dislike towards it. Willow going after Snape I could live with, I could visualize it in my head and accept it. I love Oliver Wood, hence part of my name and i was overjoyed that he was going to be a reocurring character. I was very happy to see a good Tara pov, though she not being w Willow is blasphemy . William Malfoy was a stroke of bloody brilliance! But by the Goddess, I could just barely sit here and read a D/G ship, so not my thing! And I realized that Harry was not aiming to hook up w anybody already, I had the horrible thought of Oh mY, he is going to be paired w Dawn. Then Tara going after Sirius, I can't handle it. Oliver and Buffy?
I honestly think I started reading this fic back when it was first posted many years ago and only got about this far before stopping. I will add it to my recs and maybe go back to it on another day. I am so pleased that you wrote such a large and entertaining story w great plot potential and excellent key points. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but only up to a certain point. There is always another day when I maybe in the right mood again to read it, just not right now.
Thanks, and keep writing what you enjoy, despite what people like me may say.

A very nice fic. Perhaps not as polished as your later stories, but an enjoyable read and a fun storyline. It's always a good sign when you re-read a story and the magic hasn't faded. x

Review of chapter "Sometimes It's Both the Journey and the Destination" from
FaintlyAlarmingReview:
1) ...Um. Yeah. I could buy that Willow and Tara might have unusual wands, but that they would coincidentally BOTH have wands with blood that belongs to oh, I don't know, Angel and Spike? Just vampire blood, understandable. But blood from those two specific vampires? Beyond the extreme implausibility of that, I highly doubt Spike would have given his blood to ANYONE pre-Sunnydale. Magic or not, pre-Sunnydale Spike would have EATEN Ollivander. And he *especially* would not give blood to someone that "Peaches" had already given blood to.
2) If Tara is still alive, then that would make this fic based in the 'iron-tight-Scooby-bonds' era of the Buffy-verse. How the heck would Giles, and Willow, just up and *abandon* Buffy at this point? What, they're not worried at all that this means that Buffy has no Watcher, and only Xander as back-up against all the nasties of Sunnydale?
3) Willow and Tara are still college-age. Somehow seriously doubting that Hogwarts desperately needs them.
4) Hogwarts has never had need of "assistant teachers" before. Why the hell are they suddenly doing it now? Wouldn't they just hire competent teachers, and to hell with "assistants"?
5) Due to his guilt over the misdeeds of his youth, Giles doesn't really *Do* magic anymore, except in emergency situations. I don't think he would be comfortable with having to use magic on a regular basis.
Comments from author:
Wow. Someone took entirely too much time worry about some old fanfiction. It's just a story. If you liked it, fine. If not, fine. It was written several years ago. Sure, it is my most recognized work, but *I* certainly don't consider it my best. I realize that you are probably trying to be constructive, but that "...um, yeah" at the beginning just makes it sound condescending and makes me not want to listen to you at all. Happy reading.
And this is the only review you've ever left? Well, don't I feel special. Did you create this account just to do that? Surely there are better hobbies to have.

I really like this story. I read it a long time ago and I'm re-reading it now. Just one thing, the drinking age in England is 18 so Wood would have been able to drink with the girls. Sorry but that kinda bugged me.

OMG I was laughing so hard by the time I finished this story. There were times in the story where I actually had to leave my room and bang my head against the wall to keep myself in my skin. My neighbors thought I was having fits. NOW I realized why this is one of the best stories on Twisting

Liking this so far, but I'm afraid I'm going to be nitpicky - the UK legal age is 18 so Wood is old enough to drink, and being English Giles would know this and not make such a mistake.
Apart from that, loving it muchly, this will tide me over until July :D

Hee! This is adorable. Minor thing only, drinking age in Britain is eighteen, so Wood would (ha, Wood would) be able to drink with the girls.

It's amazing how you were able to capture the essence of each character.

I love rereading this fic, it never fails to pull me in. It's suspensful and yet funny at the same time, a hard combination to pull off so go you. I love how you worked in each char, having so many chars in one fic can be daunting, but you handled it wonderfully. And the pairings...I love the pairings. This if the fic that made me fall for Willow/Snape, oh so wonderful. The HP pairings were great, but that could be because I'm a fan of the D/G and H/R. And the Tara/Sirius was beautifully done. Sexuality can be confusing when it decides to let its fluidity be known and you handled it wonderfully. I loved that Draco and Tara got a whole family they weren't expecting. Well I'll stop my gushing, wonderful fic!

I've just finished your story and I'm sorry to say that I don't understand why so many people find it so "brilliant" and voted for it.
You do write correctly, even if sometimes you tend to accumulate short sentences, but the real problem is the plot, or the lack of it.
You just cram as many people from the Buffy-verse into the HP world as possible, create improbable family ties and various pairings, but there is no plot (the battle at the end bordered on ridiculous...). Maybe you should try to concentrate on fewer characters in order to give them more depth, because they often look like caricatures in your story.
I know it's easy to criticize, so don't take it too badly. There are still many people who enjoy your stories but you also need people like me to help you improve your writing!
Good luck.

I enjoyed this story so much I read it in one afternoon. It was such a nice change of pace from all the action packed, angsty stuff. But I supposed that makes sense: humor is harder to do and very difficult to maintain.
I really appreciated the way this story focused on people and relationships - family and other - with the bad stuff as a thread running through instead of the dominating aspect. I am anticipating the sequel.
