I really like this concept: considering the family issue and Buffy-verse it could be that only the younger sons or the less powerful wizards end up working for the council of watchers.
I hope that you concept multiplies to other authors as the relative ages of the characters does work. Weseley may not be the same age as his actor either -- which I believe is early 30s.
The angst bit is excellent so far.
