Unfortunately I haven't found a way to contact the author directly, so I'm forced to send what would have been an e-mail by review:
"My first issue with it is that it's not set up specifically for fanfictions, which makes a lot of the formatting and settings odd. Also it's gotten a bad reputation for emo bloggers, though I must admit it's starting to move away from that simply by sheer force of people forgetting about the emo kids.
I've taken a look at your setup and it's actually remarkably good for a livejournal system, it's just bothersome because each person who makes a livejournal fanfiction section will end up doing it differently. It's OK when there's a difference between Fanfiction.net, Mediaminer.org and TTH.org, I expect a difference between sites, but I don't like it when everyone's got their own different setup on the same site! That just gets confusing.
I suppose on the other hand the massive, and varied, number of posts means there's little checking... but that's also a downside since there are a lot of stories up that are sub par. NOT TO SAY YOURS IS!!! I finished reading Consequences there, awesome story, liked the pacing and the tone of it a lot, I'm just saying that it could happen more easily there where NOTHING is checked and there's no incentive to check it really."
Comments from author:
I stay mostly in the fannish sections of LJ, so I can't speak to the general content of it. But fandom on LJ is large and varied and has niches for just about everything. I used to spend a lot of time on various sci-fi message boards before gravitating towards LJ; there's no more whining and emo childishness on LJ than there was on the boards I saw, except it's easier to avoid/ignore the whiners, in my experience.
There's no more or less incentive to become a better writer on LJ than there is on ff.net or tth or any other site that doesn't screen posts for quality control, in my experience. (In fact, I'd have to say that the average quality of story on LJ is higher than the average quality of story on ff.net. This is not difficult, however, as the average quality on ff.net is abysmal. More to the point, I'd say the average quality is about the same as on tth.) The difference is that on LJ it's easier to get involved in the fanfic community than it is on a regular archive site (even one with an attached message board), and to me that far outweighs the inconveniences of organizational differences. Not to mention, aside from ff.net which I rarely take the time to wade through because most of it is crap, most archives are single fandom (or single fic type, which I would classify tth as). So if you're going to read stories in multiple fandoms, you have to spend a lot of time going from archive to archive. LJ, it's all there. There are several communities for each fandom, depending on types of fic/pairings/etc., you friend or join the communities that interest you, and every time someone posts to those communities it comes up on your friends page. Everything in one place.
There are only a few basic models of fanfic posting in common use on LJ. Even if a person doesn't have a fic index page, most people use tags and links to provide a similar function. And if you're an LJ regular, it's actually a lot easier to screen out the bad stuff on LJ than it is on a regular archive. Most people will post a recommendation in their own journal when they come across a fic they really like, and there are recommendation communities for most large fandoms, and a major multi-fandom rec community, so if you friend the rec communities that interest you and the authors you like, you generally get a good selection of good quality fic popping up on your friends list regularly, either from being posted by the authors you have friended, or fics that have been rec'ed.
Bottom line, I love the community on LJ, once you settle in it's pretty easy to find fics and navigate through them, and I love having good quality fics delivered right to me without having to wade through oodles of crappy stories. So LJ is my primary internet home. There are some serious drawbacks, starting with the direction the company that owns LJ has been heading, and when Dreamwidth.org finally goes online I'll probably switch over, but for now LJ is the best game in town. YMMV.

Aw man, I'm really loving this story, but I absolutely LOATH to go to livejournal! Not only that, but the link you supply on the last page is actually defunct! Now I can never know the end of this story!? Now I'm gonna have to go home and cry... :'(
Comments from author:
The link to my Livejournal fic index page has been fixed. Livejournal is the only place where all of my fic is listed together. ff.net has most of my stuff, but not all of it. (It does, however, have all of Consequences and New Lives.) Out of curiosity, what do you have against Livejournal?

I really like this story and can't wait to see it continue.
I'm wondering if the baby will look like a neanderthal because of the Touched virus.
There was obvious changes caused by the virus. I don't think SG-1 was checked for DNA changes in the show.

This is a great chapter, and I love the back-story you filled in for Jack, especially, with his family and how he came to be in the Air Force. It's a lot of fun to see Sam and Jack trying to negotiate the "are-we-having-a-baby-together?" issues at a point in their working relationship where they're still mostly clueless about each other's family and personal lives.

Can't help but sympathize with Carter's very understandable reservations (especially given her experience with ex-fiance and would-be god-king Jonas), but also can't help rooting for the success of Jack's "step one: make her laugh" program. Thanks for continuing with this.

Ick! to the idea of any NID involvement, but it's still fascinating to see people trying to work out the real-world consequences, without blowing their cover. Glad Jack is finally "biting the bullet" to talk with Sam about this. Thanks for updating!
Comments from author:
Yeah. It's one of those things they don't have time to show because it's fundamentally an action show: what are the human consequences? That's what fic is for. Thanks for the review!

Love that you're continuing with this, though not surprised that Daniel's the one offering the moral support to Sam (after all, who else could she speak so honestly with?). Poor Jack, but at least he has Teal'c to keep his head on straight.

Ooh, this is awesome. A very unique story, and it's very cool to see SG-1 starting to come together. I can't wait to see how the meeting goes!

RevDorothyLReview:
I'm continuing to appreciate the way that Sam and Jack are managing to screw up, but in a way that's completely believable (not just torturing one another for the sake of added drama in the story, but rather doing the kind of dumb miscalculations that very intelligent and well-meaning humans DO when they're in tight spots and care a great deal about what might be happening between them). Oh, and the idea of Teal'c as a gossip . . . ! That's always good for a smile, anyday.
Comments from author:
I'm glad you like it! The problem with the few stories of this sort that aren't so syrupy sweet they'd launch a diabetic into a coma, is that they're incredibly melodramatic. Which is unfortunate, because mature adults are quite capable of screwing things up without pyrotechnics and hysteria, and it's more interesting (to me, at least) when they're allowed to do so.

Review of chapter "Chapter Five" from
RevDorothyLReview:
I'm continuing to be impressed by the complexity you allow to show through in this story. There's no "of course!" about, whether it's giving Teal'c a quick introduction to 100 years of abortion/choice debates, or Carter thinking about how reliable and supportive Jack might be (at this very early point in their acquaintance) as a father, or whether SHE's anybody's choice for a mom (including the obvious parallels between infants and parasites or less-attractive symbiotes that DO occur, even to the most doting pregnant women, at times). And I love Carter's whole line of thought about how the very fact that she's attracted to Jack, given her penchant for weirdos and lunatic fringe guys, ought to count as a mark against him as fatherhood material. Very REAL, this all feels. Very human.
Comments from author:
Thanks! My main frustration with most fic (and with most tv shows/movies in general) is that they completely miss/gloss over the real issues. Don't get me wrong, I love happy endings, but for the happy ending to mean something, you have to deal with true, honest emotions, facts, etc. You can't just gloss over them.

Review of chapter "Chapter Four" from
RevDorothyLReview:
I'm reallly enjoying this! This is actually the first "Broca" story I've read, positing "what if...?" from that scene in the locker room. Love the mature way the characters are interacting, and I'm looking forward to the next installments with great eagerness. Thanks for writing this!
Comments from author:
I'm glad you liked it! There are many Broca fics floating around out there, many of them on ff.net. Generally, what happens is Carter finds out she's pregnant, she and Jack declare their undying love and get married, they have twins, and nobody has any objections to the two of them continuing on the same team together (or if some nefarious charachter does, the President overrules him/her). I would not advise a diabetic to read such a story, because most of them are syrupy-sweet enough to send a diabetic into a coma.
This fic came into being when I read one, and told myself, "Self, you can do better than that!"

That was a great line at the end! LOL I like the way you listed out some of her options as far as the SGC were concerned. Made it more belivable that supersmart Sam would go through all the options and eventually come up with one that most benefited her and everyone else.
Good work! Can't wait for more. . .

Yeah, that would be a good reason to call him Jack, instead of Colonel :) This would be a horrible situation to face, maybe all the involved persons should get together and talk. The, "can't keep our pants on" support group. (a guess that might be a teensy bit unfair)
Comments from author:
Yeah, just a bit unfair. I'm guessing you've never seen the episode Broca Divide, which this is AU for? The virus of the Touched, that caused this, didn't just take away inhibitions. It turned people into mad monkey cave people in short order. As in, not enough intelligence left to talk, going purely on animal instinct.
The first person to get this disease attacked Teal'c. The people Sam caught it from were two people from another team who attacked and killed each other (she was trying to do first aid--they hadn't yet figured out what was going on). Like I said, it stripped away everything but instinct in pretty short order. She got it and went to jump Jack in the locker room (female primates want offspring from the alpha male of their group; the alpha male of SG-1 is Jack). This is where my story diverges from the episode. In the episode Jack wasn't infected yet and managed to get her to the infirmary, by which time she was no longer capable of any kind of communication other than growling and howling. (In the ep, he got infected from her. And by the time he'd gotten her to the infirmary, checked in with Janet, and gotten back to the control room he was so far gone he attacked Daniel. Thankfully, there were a lot of people in the control room who could pull him off Daniel. Through the use of massively unsafe doses of sedatives, Jack was able to communicate on a very basic level--individual words--for a short time thereafter.)
This story is based on the idea that Jack got infected before Sam came to him in the locker room. With higher brain functions on both sides _rapidly_ disappearing and almost gone by the time the crucial event occurred, you can't really hold them responsible for their actions.
That doesn't make it any easier for any of the people who did things while infected, whether that means sex or attacking/hurting/killing someone.
