Denni's Den

Chapter 6- Denni’s Den

It was the gentle tweeting of a bird that woke June. With a smile on her face, she rolled away from the window--through which a tiny stream of sunlight was peeking through the curtains onto her face--and found her body gently colliding with another warm body. Her mind still slowed from awaking, she smiled even wider and snuggled closer to the body. Then, as she felt hands close around her, her eyes flew all the way open.

She was nude, she realized. And so was the other body. Apparently, the other occupant of the bed had realized this two, for the hands were slowly losing their grip on her. Both sat up to face one another. And it was all they could do not to scream.

Severus backed away from June as she averted her eyes from his body.

“What…what happened?” June whimpered, trying desperately to explain the night before…as well as trying to remember it.

“I--I don’t know. Um…we were sitting here,” Severus said, motioning to the bed.

“Yeah,” June said, slowly remembering as he went over what he remembered.

“And…you kissed me…”

June bit her lip. “Uh-huh.”

“And I kissed you back…and…Oh…oh…no…We…”

“Don say it!” June said, jumping off the bed with sheet in hand to cover her.

Severus quickly grabbed a pillow to cover himself with.

“But…it’s true! June, we’ve…slept together!” he said, seeming to force the words out.

“Oh, God…Oh, Merlin…Oh, somebody!” June said, falling to the floor with the sheet wrapped around her. “What are we going to do?”

“Well, my first instinct tells me not to tell anybody,” Severus said, moving over to comfort her.

She nodded. Then, looking up, she smiled.

“And what’s so bad about it? I mean, I’m an adult…and so are you…” she said, her voice wavering.

Both of them knew why it was wrong. Harry hated Severus, and Severus wasn’t too fond of Harry either. And, most importantly, he was June’s Watcher. She wasn’t sure, but she didn’t think that Watchers were supposed to sleep with their Slayers. Finally, clearing her throat, she stood.

“I’m going to apparate back to my room--so no one will see me--and we’ll tell nobody about this. This’ll be our little secret,” June said, turning her back on Severus.

“I agree,” he said.

However, before June apparated away, she looked over her shoulder at him. With a bit of a blush on her cheeks, she asked, “Severus? You…did enjoy it, didn’t you?”

He looked up at her with the tiniest of smiles peeking through his worried demeanor.

“Of course I did, June. I…I care for you very much. You have no idea how much I…” he said, but stopped, thinking better of it.

June’s eyes widened. Then, she said, “It’s okay. I understand.”

Before Severus could said anything else, she apparated away. Once gone, he shook his head.

“I lied to you, June,” he said, speaking only to the air that inhabited his room. “I don’t care for you.”

He stood and moved toward his wardrobe. Pulling out his typical black robe, he whispered, “I love you.”

…………………

The Slayers patrolled that night. All of them were armed with stakes and magical talismans Willow had sent them once June had explained the Heir to her. All went in teams--only the untrained Slayers got the easier night spots. Desi, Lulu, and Roxy took the north side cemetery; Caty and Aislynn took the south side cemetery; Wendy and Tugba took the west side cemetery; and Victoria, Allison, and Belinda took east side cemetery. As for Faith, June, and Chennay--for she was now officially paired up with the two veteran Slayers, they took the demon haunt in the center of L.A.

It was a hot, roaring nightclub, complete with booze, sex, and death. All the things demons loved the most. The music was loud, and the strobe light speed was as fast as it could go as June and her partners entered the club. A handsome, human-like demon with huge wings in his back stepped in their tracks before they could get too far in.

“No fighting allowed,” he said, looking at all three of them. “This here is a neutral zone.”

Faith stepped forward, preparing to size him up and beat him down, but June stepped in front of her.

“Take it easy. We’re not here to cause trouble. We’re just here for a little information,” the Witch-Slayer said. Then, she added, looking back at Faith and Chennay, “Isn’t that right, girls?”

Both of her fellows muttered some form of consent. The he-demon nodded.

“Well, if it’s info you girls are out for tonight, try the bartender. His name is Data Denni. They say that his mind holds the same amount of information a computer can. For a price, you understand,” he said, stepping aside.

“Of course,” Faith said as she, June, and Chennay entered onto the dance floor.

They worked their way past several people and demons dancing wildly to the playing song. Once or twice, a man, woman, or demon would bump into them. June and Chennay would merely walk on. As for Faith, if it were a man, she danced with him. If it were a woman, she gently pushed her back onto the dance floor. And if it were a demon, some friendly blows were exchanged, and then it moved merrily along its way. It seemed to take forever, but finally, the three Slayers arrived at the bar and took seats.

The bartender held the appearance of a handsome, twenty year old man who apparently had some Latino in him. All the better to make the girls around him swoon. June suspected that he was merely a demon that could either assume shapes or steal bodies. Sadly enough, however, this was not her agenda tonight. He made his way over to them, flashed them a white-toothed smile, and said, in lightly accented Hispanic, “Hello, Ladies, I’m Denni. New in town? What can I do you for?”

“Information,” June answered.

His smile broadened. “What do you need?”

“Anything you would know about someone calling themselves the Heir of Voldemort,” Faith said.

Denni drew in his breath quickly, as if he had touched something very hot.

“Ah, that’s a delicate subject. I know some things, but it will cost you,” he said.

“How much?” June said.

Faith shot her a look that asked, “Are we really going to pay him?” June did not return a look, but merely stared sternly at Denni.

“Ah, well…I am not really a material person. I make an excellent living owning this club…however…Perhaps a night with this beautiful young thing…” he said, reaching out to cup Chennay’s chin between his index finger and thumb.

Chennay quickly slapped it away. “No way!”

“Ah,” Denni said, shaking his head. “Too bad.”

“I’ll spend the night with you,” Faith said quickly.

Both June and Chennay looked quickly at her. She winked and turned back to Denni.

“So, how about it, hot stuff?” she asked.

Denni stared her up and down. Finally, he smiled.

“Deal. Here’s what I know,” he said.

All three Slayers leaned in.

“The Heir of Voldemort calls himself that, even though he has never met him. However, it is rumored that Voldemort specifically picked him as an infant to replace him, should something happen. They say that he charmed him somehow,” Denni said.

“What about powers? Does he have any special powers?” June asked.

“Other than the fact that he’s a strong wizard…no, none that I’ve heard,” he said.

“Is that all you know?” Faith asked.

Denni nodded. June stood and smiled.

“Then that’s all we’ll be needing. Good night,” she said as she, Faith, and Chennay started to leave.

“Hey! Hey! What about my payment?” he called to them.

Both June and Chennay turned to stare at Faith. She smiled and said, “Just a second.”

Faith strutted back over to Denni and leaned over the counter to whisper to him. By the time she was done saying whatever it was she was saying, Denni was shooing her away. She came back up to June, smiling.

“What did you tell him?” June asked in amazement.

“Oh, just some of my nocturnal fetishes. Knives, whips, fire…you know,” she said as the three exited the club.

“You--You don’t really like that stuff, do you?” Chennay asked.

Faith winked at her, “What do you think?”

Chennay moved to walk further ahead of the two. June sighed and shook her head. Faith raised an eyebrow at her.

“What’s up, girlie?” she asked. “Normally, you’d be busting a gut over that. Did B rub off on you or something?”

June shook her head again. “No…I just…had a stressful night last night.”

“I bet,” Faith said.

“What do you mean?” June asked, a little panic creeping into her voice.

Faith stared at her again. “Nothing…just that I know this Heir guy has got you worried like a mama hen does over her babies. I know this guys trouble, but you have got to relax, girl. Get out and get some, you know?”

Faith winked at her and made some god awful grunting noises. June laughed at a joke Faith could not possibly fully understand.

“I don’t need any, thank you,” she said.

End Notes: I hope that June’s worrisome attitude over her night with Severus is beginning to show well. Well, what did you think? I hope you liked it! As for the chapter title, if anyone’s wondering…that was the name of the club. Please review!
