It seemed strange to Dean to think of his dad getting married again. It was even stranger to think that his new step-mother was younger than he was. After all the lectures from his dad growing up about getting attached.... his dad had fallen in love.
At first glance, she seemed too fragile, too small and definitely too full of life to possibly be involved in their risky, secretive lifestyle. That was, until you looked in her eyes. They reminded Dean of his father’s eyes - haunted by the sight of death up close, far too old for their years, and hiding untold strength in their depths.
Dean had initially objected to the relationship, as much as a son can, anyway. But when he had seen the way his father and his fiancee looked at each other, all his concerns melted away. Sam had said once that they deserved some light in their dark existence - and after twenty-two years, hadn’t their father mourned enough?
Music interrupted his thoughts and Dean’s attention snapped to his charge. He was giving the bride away today, after all.
“Are you ready?” he asked. She nodded, looping her arm with his. “Welcome to the family, Willow.”
