Prologue
"But they've been sleeping for days! Days!"
Ron Weasley rolled his eyes, sending his older brother a bit of a dark look before turning back to peek through the crack in the door before him. His eyes landed on the middle bed, the brunette occupying it snoring away blissfully. He wasn't all that surprised to see her and any of the others in such a state. They have been like this since they first arrived at Hogwarts.
"They're exhausted," he heard his friend Harry Potter intercede on the behalf of the guests. "I dare say that they earned the right to be sleeping. They did save the world."
"So now they won't come out of their rooms, is that it?" Percy Weasley rolled his eyes in the same fashion his younger brother just minutes before. "I understand they're tired, but we have work that needs to be done!"
"You always have work that needs to be done," Ron protested, easing the door shut silently so as not to wake the three girls sleeping inside. "And I don't think you do understand Percy. You haven't seen them before today. We saw them when they got in. They were a mess. A tired, bloody, sad mess. They deserve to rest."
"I'm not saying they haven't," Percy immediately backtracked. "It's just that they may have saved the world, but they changed it at the same time too. Now there's a verifiable serious situation at hand which cannot be resolved without their help. So they need to wake up!"
"Well, you're welcome to try," Hermione Granger retorted, speaking up for the first time since the entire exchange began. "They're not likely to take it all that well. The brunette in that room actually shoved Professor Snape straight clear of the room when he tried to wake them up just two days ago."
"I heard about that," Percy muttered, his face grave. "These girls, they have no idea about how to control their newfound strength-"
"Actually, she's one of the veteran Slayers," Harry interrupted. "And she did it on purpose. I heard her cackle afterwards."
"Well, then," Percy sputtered, tossing the closed door a glare. "That kind of behaviour is just not appropriate right now-"
"I say it is," Hermione interjected again, a frown on her face. "You don't understand Percy. They showed up here and the first thing they did was demand a memorial service for those that had fallen in the battle. They could barely stand upright, but they demanded the service before anything could be done. They all gathered together, having a good cry as Professor Dumbledore said a prayer for their fallen before they even allowed themselves to be led into the school. And right after that, more than half of them were admitted into the infirmary with serious wounds. The other half were spread out over the school, people occasionally coming in to check on their minor wounds. They went through hell Percy. I don't think any amount of proper manners and responsibilities are going to make them get up from those beds until they are good and ready."
"But the other Slayers, all around the world," Percy protested. "We can't find them all without their help."
"Then find the ones you can and wait on them to rest up," Ron suggested. "Because like 'Mione said, they aren't waking up until they're good and ready. It's a miracle we can get them to wake up enough to intake food. But as for this radical new institution that has to be constructed ASAP, I don't think they're going to see the urgency of it. To them, the world is safe and their job is over for the next week or so while they recover."
"The world doesn't work that way," Percy retorted.
"Says the man who didn't have anything to do with stopping the End of Days," Harry returned sarcastically. Percy turned a hard gaze on him before shooting the other two a similar glare. Without another word, the wizard stomped off, leaving the amused seventh-years standing guard at the bedroom door.
"He's going to try and wake them up," Harry mused. Ron snorted, obviously unimpressed with his older brother.
"Let him try. Should be fun to see what that Faith girl does to him."
