Amanda watched the kid with the candy cane in his mouth. He didn’t even realize that people were watching, staring at the way he worked the piece of peppermint candy like a pro while talking to the man across from him, an open book between them.

“Sammy!” The second of the two exhaled before storming off.

She wet her lips, took a drink of her beer, debating the merits of attempting to get him in bed with her. He wasn’t MacLeod, but she was lonely. And two days before Christmas was no time to be alone.
