Okay, this is a quickie that popped in my head. Hope ya like it.
AN(July 27) There is now a sequel up, in the Giles/General section.
She was dead.
Killed by the Dark Lord Voldemort last night.
Lily.
His Lily.
His night and day, his infatuation since second year, when he had realized that girls didn't actually have cooties. She had been his best friend since day one of Hogwarts, ignoring those that said a Gryffindor was too good to be best friends with a Ravenclaw. Slytherin wasn't the only house that was biased.
He had taught her all about the wizarding world, and she, in turn, had explained the mysteries of the muggle world to him.
He had warned her against every-flavor beans, and taught her how to haggle with the shopkeepers in Hogsmeade. She had explained the English Muggle money system to him, and taught him how to catch a cab in Muggle London.
He had taught her how to fly, and tutored her in DADA, his best class, and she had helped him out in Charms, which he was horrible in.
They had been the only ones to stay at school most Holidays, she not wanting to deal with the hatred of her sister, he not wanting to face his father, and listen to the demands that he become a watcher.
They were the best of friends, even after she discovered boys.
She and Sirius had lasted a week and a half.
She and Remus lasted a record three months.
She had even dated in his house, Derek Davies for 3 weeks, and Haden Patil for a month.
Through it all, Rupert and Lily had been inseperable. It was the reason that she and Sirius had broken up. He didn't want "his girl" hanging around another bloke. They were over the seccond he uttered the phrase "his girl"
Then she discovered James.
James Potter.
The Golden Boy of Gryffindor. Chaser on the Quidditch team, high marks in all his classes, those piercing eyes, that unruly black hair... It was all she talked about for months. James this, and James that, and James said hi to me in the halls today.
They started dating fifth year. They were "The Couple" of Gryffindor. Handsome James, Golden Boy, and pretty little Lily Evans, muggle-born, with the highest marks in her year.
She didn't notice that Rupert, or Rupes, as she called him, had that same unruly hair she admired so much, only a shade or two lighter. Rupert was also on the quidditch team, but he was seeker.
Rupes was like her brother, he was a-sexual.
Until that October day. They had graduated from Hogwarts only 4 months before. The two of them, and James were all in auror training. Rupert was given an ultimatum by his father. Either he went to the watcher academy, or he got disowned. He didn't have the guts to stand up to his father.
It was a week before the Auror Halloween Ball. They were trying on their new dress robes. They called it a clothes fluke. Said clothes had spent the night lying on the floor. Lily was dating James, Rupert was leaving. They agreed for it never to happen again.
It had only been about two years. They hadn't seen each other since. She had sent a few notes, in the beginning, but after a few months, they had stopped. The final one had said, simply: Married James yesterday.
and it was signed Lily Potter.
And now she was dead. Killed by the bogeyman of wizard kind.
And her child had stopped him.
The child she hadn't seen fit to tell him about.
The one-year-old child he was currently holding in his arms.
The child with unruly dark brown hair, and her deep green eyes. Eyes that held knowledge no child should have had.
The knowledge that he had not lost both of his parents last night, only his mother.
