Specimen

The black tarp was rolled out in a shallow valley, grave dirt piled high and rising as the shovels scrapped more of the earth up and out of an ever deepening hole. The marker of granite rose slim and proud in the early morning light as voices from the hole called out for a crowbar. He arched a brow at the grunts of effort to pry open a simple wooden box.

Polished wingtips neared the edge and he watch dispassionately as the coffin was opened and the five-week-old corpse was revealed. Lips pealed back over straight teeth in a mockery of a smile and an unsightly black dress hid the rest of its waxen flesh. Blonde hair trailed behind a once pretty face as his men lifted it from the satin lining.

He nodded at the rate of decomposition and pulled his cell phone from pocket of his blazer. A manicured thumbnail pressed speed dial six and he waited impatiently for the connection to be made as his men began to ready the cadaver for transport.

“Hello?”

He smiled, “Dr. Isaacs.”

“Major Cain.”

“The specimen was exactly as you predicted.”

“No trace of embalming?”

“It’s pure.”

“Bring her to me.”

The End.
