Buffy sighed as she waited for Giles to come back to the library. He had to go and get a bunch of books that he had at home concerning the latest bad. Willow had gone home for the night and Xander left with her to walk her home. So she was in the library all alone on a Friday night when she could be doing something so much more interesting… like hanging out with Angel.
Buffy stood up and walked into Giles’ office. She ran her fingers over some of the books before choosing one at random. It was at the very bottom of a tall pile of books. She sauntered back into the main room of the library and sat down. The slayer opened the book to a random page and started reading.
“I knew it was coming close to the end of their time. These parasites were worse than the oldest vampire. At least they never tried to set himself up as a God. The demon population hates them almost as much as we do. For every five vampire I have slain I sent one away with the message of an uprising against our ‘beloved’ Ra. I have spoken to many of the demon tribes and the Brachens in particular are ready to rise. I wonder how Imhotep is faring in—”
Buffy closed the book and rubbed her temple. It was weird if she closed her eyes she could almost see a young man with the brightest green eyes she had ever seen. She looked at the cover the book. The diary of a daughter of Sekhmet: Femi.
“Buffy what are you doing?” Giles asked as he carried an armful of books into the library.
“Nothing just looking.” Buffy pushed the book away from her.
“Be careful Buffy. That is a very old book.” Giles put down the other books and picked up the diary.
Buffy shrugged an apology and starting flipping through the new books and stopped on a particularly interesting picture. “Ewww.”
Giles went to put the diary back in his office. As he gingerly placed the book in a drawer he paused and looked back at his slayer through the window. He wondered what Buffy was looking at in the book, there wasn’t a lot of pictures in it. He didn’t even know why he had it; ancient Egyptian wasn't one of his best languages. Giles shrugged to himself and closed the drawer.
