Break Away

Buffy Summers/Thelma Bates (Hex)
Break Away

Thelma wandered the halls of yet another boarding school in the English countryside. Emma had sent her to check out the oddness here. There was something going on under the surface of this place, maybe not quite as insidious as Azazeal’s spawn, but there was something. Of course Thelma, being a ghost who can enter the dreams of others, was the one who got volunteered for the mission. Of course it was an all girls school, so Leo was out, and Emma had flat refused to go near the place.

Thelma was thinking as she meandered through the halls. The dreams that she had seen in this place were, what was the phrase that teacher had used, oh “wiggy as hell”. Demons and monsters she had never imagined. Emma had once said that there were other scary things in the world, but wow.

“You’re not supposed to be here.”

Thelma whirled and saw a short blonde with a sword staring right at her. She floundered for a moment before she could answer the, rather hot, stranger.

“No, I’m not. I was just looking around a bit. I’m surprised you can see me. Almost nobody can.”

“I see a lot of things. You do know you’re dead, right? Ghosts aren’t my specialty, but I do know that you need to move on, let go, break away from your mortal cares.”

Thelma smiled and approached the other woman. “Yes, I know I’m dead. I died protecting a friend from a fallen angel. Too bad that was what he planned all along. Do you know how much it hurts to be stabbed in the gut?”

There was a flicker of hurt or guilt or something, and then a measured reply. “Why are you here? You aren’t one of our girls, and we had the place blessed, exorcised, warded, degnomed, and anything else we could think of before we moved in.”

Thelma laughed. “Just visiting. I like to explore the dreams of others. I saw some very interesting things around here.”

The woman, Buffy was going to respond, but Thelma turned and skipped out of the building with a laugh.
