AN: Gem’s X5 designation was never identified so I made one up. Thanks to everyone who took the time to read and a special thanks to those of you who commented.
Ch2Dr. Reilly had an unusually youthful appearance despite his claim to 38 years. X5-817 had been extraordinarily curious but kept her interest a secret. That was another survival technique she’d developed soon after the ‘09 escape. Although always aware of her surroundings, feigning disinterest was key. All twins and clones of the escapees were sent to Psy-ops and she’d been thankful none of her clones had escaped. Of course, that was due to the fact that she was the only one left.
The Doctor intrigued her as nothing else did. He didn’t look any older than most of the X5s on base. She had known right away that he was different. There had been an immediate attraction between them; almost visceral with its potency. Certainly a welcomed change from the indifferent fumbling of her breeding partner whose only goal was to accomplish the task set before them. It always left her feeling sore and dirty and very used. Not that she’d let those types of emotions show. She’d seen what had happened to 494 after his first long term mission failed.
Visible emotions were always dealt with by swift brutality via a trip to Psy-ops.
817 was always sent to Dr. Reilly’s labs in between heat cycles. That was another thing that made her different. Regular monthly heat cycles; unlike the other X5’s who only had their cycle a few times a year. Woohoo. After two months of unsuccessful fertilization, she was sent to his lab in the basement at the peak of her cycle for testing of her hormone levels and viability. Renfroe was of the opinion that it might be her. 817 hoped it wasn’t. She liked her parts right where they were thank you.
She was escorted to the entrance of the lab and entered. The door closed with a solid thud and 817 could suddenly smell him from across the room.
Neither one of them stood a chance.
She met his eyes; the shock of awareness stealing her breath as he excused himself before taking the usual blood sample. He’d been in the cooling unit long enough that 817 had become worried and called out. She heard a strange guttural chanting and then a sharp pressure filled the room. It dissipated within seconds with a quiet ‘pop’ and he called to her from inside with a shaky voice. It wasn’t until she stepped into the cooler that she realized he’d called her by an actual name. The heat radiating from his tension filled body eased the disquiet she’d been feeling since she’d entered the room. She looked up into his lust blown eyes and gasped at the response flowing up through her.
“I’m sorry I scared you, but you’re not a number to me Gem.”
Her new name sent a shiver of delight through her and she stepped closer to him. “Doct…” His scowl dried the words in her mouth. He smiled again and her heart sped up to a gallop.
“Please call me Connor.”

I know these are short chapters, but I have no intention of making this into a huge project. At least they're bigger than drabbles.
Again, I love comments and it actually does help with the creative process to know y'all are enjoying the story. Suggestions are also welcomed.
