Eve has her father’s eyes.

She thought she’d never see that particular shade of blue again but, at six months; Eve’s eyes stopped morphing and settled on a heartbreaking bright blue. She had his smile too. And his scowl.

Gem had told Cindy her baby’s daddy had been her breeding partner. She felt no guilt from the lie. Lying had become a habit and a necessary element for survival. Dalton was the only one that knew the truth because he’d been in the rec room with her when the base went into lockdown. All of the windows and doors were bolted from the outside and the two of them had begun to panic when the door leading from the corridor screeched like a thing in pain. The metal twisted and the door bent in half to reveal Dr. Reilly’s face.

He pulled again and the door came off its hinges and he reached out his hand to her. “Gem! We’ve got to get out of here now!”
