The edge of darkness
She wasn’t alone as she originally thought. Around her lied people, maybe ten fifteen of them, and the blood, oh god so much blood. She hoped at least some of them were alive.
The person closest to her was a man in his twenties. The man’s face was covered in blood and dirt. He had blonde hair, at least that is what she thought, the blood painted his hair red. His eyes were still open, they seemed to stare right at her, but they contained no life.
She looked beyond the bodies, she notices that she, well they, were in a forest. She didn’t recognize it.
“They’re all dead” she thought, as she realized that there was still no sound, no breathing, no heart beating.
“What happened here?”
She started to panic; she could feel her heart starting to beat faster and faster, she could feel her blood pumping through her veins.
“I have to calm down” She took a deep breath and slowly let it out again. She started to check if she could move her limbs.
She stretched her arms above her head, and bent her knees. It felt good to stretch, but she really had to get out of here. She tried to stand up, but her legs were too weak. She tried again, but failed once more. It took a lot of strength out of her. After a few minutes of catching her breath, she tried to stand up for the third time. It took all of her efforts and her legs were shaking, but she stood up.
“Now I just have to move one foot in front of the other.”
She avoided looking at any of the bodies, she knew that if she did she would never get anywhere, she would break down completely and he didn’t have time for that now.
“I have to be strong, come on, I can do this. It’s not the first time I land myself in strange situations.”
She didn’t know which way led out, so she just took the one with the least bodies.
She walked slowly and her legs were shaking, but at least she was getting somewhere.
Finally, after she walked in what felt like hours, the forest seemed to thin out, less trees, less bushes.
She didn’t follow any path, mainly because no one existed. She just walked aimlessly, hoping that soon she would get out of there. She got cuts on her arms from all the branches, the t-shirt she was wearing didn’t protect her arms much.
A cut on her knee that she got earlier when she tripped over a stone, started to bleed again.
“Am I ever going to get out of here? It doesn’t look very likely.”
And just as she finished that thought she came to the edge of the forest.
“Whoa” even though she was alone she spoke out loud.
She blinked a few times to see if it was really there or if she was just seeing things. It hurt all over and she was so tired, but no, even after a few blinks it was still there.
A castle, a frigging castle in the middle of nowhere.
She stood there staring, for god knows how long. She so desperately wanted to get out of the forest, but the castle was pretty scary too…
Well, she had to chose, the lesser of two evil. And in this case that was the castle. She gathered up her courage and took a step forward, a step away from the forest, a step out in an unknown world, a step away from the bodies. And as she took this step she collapsed.
Her last thought before darkness came over her was:
“Why is Gandalf here?”
And of course it wasn’t Gandalf she saw, it was a wizard named Dumbledore, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, but we’ll just call him Albus Dumbledore.
AN: I know it's short, but I just don't have time right now.. But I promise that in a few weeks you'll get a longer chapter.
