Title: Secrets and Lies
Summary: Buffy thought her life couldn't get any stranger, until one day a letter arrives that reveals her family's secrets...
Author: xBlackRose
Discaimer: I only own the plot. All HP characters belong to J.K.Rowling and all BTVS characters belong to Joss Wheadon.

A/N: I know I have changed all the timelines and the dates/ages don't match up etc but I couldn't think of any other way to work this. Set HP film 3 & BTVS Season 1 going on to Season 2. I have not read the HP books but have seen all the films that are out so I am using them to get my information. Hopefully, this story will be part of a triology, but I don't know how long it will take to get all three finished. This is my first HP crossover so sorry if I get a few things wrong, please point them out to me if I do, thanks.

Prologue:

Thirteen Years ago...

"I should have known you would have been here, Professor McGonagall." Albus Dumbledore said as the cat morphed into a woman and stood before him.

"Good evening, Professor Dumbledore. Are the rumors true Albus?" She replied quietly as she walked over to the wizard, the two of them stopping outside a house down Privet Drive.

"I'm afraid so Professor. The good and the bad."

"And the boy?" She asked worridley.

"Hagrid is bringing him."

"Do you think it wise to trust Hagrid with something as important as this?"

"Ah, Professor, I would trust Hagrid with my life" Dumbledore said with a small smile as they heard an engine running. Seconds later a man appeared on a bike-like vehicle which stopped just in front of the same house.

"Professor Dumbledore, sir. Professor McGonagall." He greeted as he got down from the vehicle and came over to them holding a small carrier basket in his hands.

"No problems I trust, Hagrid?" Dumbledore asked.

"No, sir. Little tyke fell asleep as we were flying over Bristol. There you go." Hagrid said as he handed over the carrier with a baby inside.

McGonagall sighed, "Albus, do really think it's safe leaving him with these people? I've watched them all day. There're the worst sort of Muggles imaginable. I really think he would be better off with his other relatives."

"That is not an option, Minivra. We have already discussed this. They live too far away from Hogwarts."

McGonagall nodded, she did already know this but leaving the poor child with these people just didn't seem
right. "The boy will be famous. There won't be a child in our world who doesn't know his name."

"Exactly. He's far better off growing up away from all of that. Until he is ready." Dumbledore said as he gently placed the carrier on the doorstep of the house, he noticed Hagrid wiping his eyes. "There, there Hagrid. It's not really goodbye after all. Good Luck, Harry Potter."

Sunnydale, C.A
Present Day

Buffy gasped as she sat upright in her bed. Ever since she drowned and destroyed the Master she had been dreaming about that night. And every dream felt so real. She could litterally feel his fangs at her neck and her blood running down her shoulder. She could taste the water that she had drowned in in her mouth and now she was afraid to go to sleep in fear of what she might see again.

Shaking her head to get rid of the dark memories, she climbed out of her bed and headed downstairs where she knew her mom would be.

"Hey, honey. Did you sleep well?" her mother asked from the kitchen where she was making pancakes for breakfast.

Buffy shrugged her shoulders, "I had the nightmare again. I swear it's keeping me up, I feel like I haven't slept at all."

Her mother frowned and put a plate of food in front of Buffy as she sat down on a stool. "Well it was a very traumatic experience, you can't just expect it to dissapear so sudenly. I know fighting vampires would always keep me awake at night. I don't know how you do it everynight. You are careful aren't you?"

Buffy nodded as she tucked into her breakfast. A year ago when she had burnt down the school gym she had told her parents that she was the vampire slayer. Of course her father had freaked out, saying that she was crazy and that there was no such thing but surprisingly her mother had accepted it with just a shrug.

Sure she was always asking Buffy to be careful and she worried over her daughter's safety but she always believed in what Buffy had told her. Buffy didn't know why she had accepted it so quickly, but she was thankful that she hadn't lost the trust of both her parents that night.

Hank Summers had later admitted her to an asylum. She had stayed there for two weeks while her father told everyone that she was crazy. It had been her mother who eventually got her our of there and then the divorce followed and the two of them had moved to Sunnydale a month later.

Life had gotten a little better since then. She had a new watcher, had found new friends in Willow Rosenburg, Xander Harris and Angel who were all aware of her secrets.

"So, what did you have planned for today?" Joyce was saying as she too sat down and began eating pancakes.

"Oh, I was just gonna see what Wills and Xander were doing.".

Joyce nodded, glad that her daughter had friends that understood about her calling. Even she didn't understand all of it and she was her mother. "I'm sorry your father cancelled on you again. I know how much you were looking forward to seeing him this summer."

Buffy looked up, sure her parents didn't get along but she still enjoyed her fathers visits or when she went to Los Angeles with him. Unfortunately the last few times that they had planned something he had cancelled on her. "It's okay, really." She said as she finished her food and put the plate in the basin ready to be washed.

A slight tapping sound came from the front door and Buffy sent her mother a questioning look before walking out into the foyer and pulling open the door.

"Huh?" She frowned when she saw that there was no one there, but gasped when she saw an owl sitting on the doorstep, a small envelope in it's beak.

"Who is it?" She heard her mother call from the kitchen.

Buffy knelt down next to the owl and it shoved the letter in her hand before flying into the house, making Buffy jump back against the wall. After closing the door she turned to see her mother standing in the doorway to the kitchen. "Buffy, who wa-"

"This is strange." Buffy stated as she looked down at the envelope in her hand, she turned it over and noticed the seal on the back but before she could read it her mother snatched the letter from her hand and looked at the envelope.

"This can't be happening. Not now." She said and Buffy could swear she saw her mother's hands shaking.

"Mom? What's going on? What's the letter for?" Buffy asked as she followed her mother into the living room. She noticed that the owl was happily sitting on the coffee table, pecking at a few loose pieces of paper that were scattered on it.

"If this is what I think it is, then-." Her mother stopped herself as she sat down. Buffy sat opposite her and Joyce handed the envelope back to her. "It's addressed to you."

Cautiously Buffy looked at the front and noticed that is was addressed to her before she slid her finger under the seal and pulled the envelope open. She pulled the piece of paper out and opened it up.

"Dear Miss Summers," She read outloud so that her mother could hear. "My name is Albus Dumbledore and I am the headmaster of Hogwarts school of Witchraft and Wizardry. I am writing to inform you of a disasterous event that has happened in the magical world. I am aware of who you are and so this is one reason why I believe you have a right to know this. A prisoner by the name of Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban prison and I have reason to believe that he is coming to my school to look for a certain student by the name of Harry Potter. I do not know how much you know of this, but in case you did not know, Harry Potter is in fact your cousin."
