Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter and company, nor do I own BTVS/ATS. The respective owners of these works of brilliance make far more money than I do.

Author’s note: Just a plot bunny that hopped into my head and wouldn’t go away. This is a one-shot for now; I may expand it later. BTW, in this little one-shot no one in the BTVS world knows about Harry Potter – the books don’t exist.

Just Stopping By

“Good day. Are you Rupert Giles, by any chance?”

Giles looked up from his book, startled. He hadn’t even heard the door open, nor the footsteps of The Magic Box’s visitors. “I am,” he said slowly. “May I be of some service?”

His visitor was a short, slender boy who looked perhaps sixteen at most. He had rich, wavy raven hair that spilled over his shoulders. His skin was fair, and his eyes were an amazingly brilliant emerald green. A quick up-down glance told Giles that the boy’s clothes were expensive, and most likely tailored. As his glance lowered, he caught sight of two more sets of eyes, one a deep, dark brown, the other stormy green-blue. There were two small children hiding behind his older visitor’s legs.

The boy smiled. “Oh good, I’m not lost after all.” Giles identified the boy’s accent as British, but there were traces of other languages as well that gave the boy’s speech an interesting musical lilt. “It’s nice to meet you, master Watcher.”

Giles went rigid. It was still daylight, but… “May I ask what you want?”

The boy looked embarrassed. “I’m sorry, I didn’t give you my name. I’m Harry Potter, Mr. Giles, I believe Remus Lupin has mentioned me in his letters to you?”

Giles’ eyes widened at the mention of his werewolf-wizard friend. Remus lived in another reality, literally; during Giles’ wayward youth the two had become friends, and kept in touch by means of magically-transported letters. He mentally went back through the letters he’d received recently. Ah, yes…

He stepped from behind the counter and held out a hand to the boy. “Yes, he has mentioned you. You are a wizard as well, are you not?”

The boy clasped his hand firmly, and Giles was surprised by the calluses he felt on the slender palm. Harry smiled crookedly at the question. “I am,” he agreed. “May I introduce my son and daughter to you? Her name is Liliana Marie, and his name is Jeremiah James.” To the two small children peeking out from behind him, Harry said gently, “Lily, Jer, this is Mr. Giles. Won’t you say hello to him?”

The boy peeked out long enough to say, “’Lo,” in a tiny voice before hiding again. Lily didn’t speak at all, ducking behind both her brother and her father.

Harry gave Giles an apologetic smile. “She’s very shy.”

Giles blinked at Harry. “Ah, that’s quite all right. What brings you to The Magic Box, Mr. Potter?”

“Harry, please,” the black-haired boy said quickly. He flashed a quick grin at the Watcher. “Every time I hear ‘Mr. Potter’, I instinctively want to duck – at school I was in trouble whenever someone called me that.”

Giles smiled faintly. “Harry, then.”

The boy smiled brightly at him. “Remus actually asked me to drop by. We’ve just moved here, you see, and Remus thought it would be nice to invite you over to our new home for a spot of tea.”

Giles blinked again. “Remus has moved HERE? To the Hellmouth?”

“Remus, me, my children, and Remus’ partner, Sirius,” the boy agreed. “All of us are wizards-“

“Not ME,” Lily interrupted unexpectedly, then ducked her head.

Harry laughed, bent down, and picked up the little girl, who buried her face in his neck. “You’re right, Lily, you are our precious little WITCH.” He shot Giles a quick grin, at which Giles couldn’t help but give a return smile. “All of us wield magic, Mr. Giles. Remus has explained the Hellmouth – as well as one can explain demonic magic.” Giles saw a mixture of sadness and wisdom flash in those green eyes, and wondered about it. “We chose this reality and town because in avoiding the demons, the Mug – the normal people will most likely not look too closely at any…unusual instances that may occur around my children – or my godfather, Sirius,” the boy added with a distinct roll of his eyes.

“How old are your children, Harry?” Giles asked cautiously.

The boy smiled faintly. “Lily is three; Jeremiah will soon be five. I’m nineteen, Mr. Giles,” he added. “I’ve adopted them both.”

Giles carefully controlled his expression. “Giles is fine, Harry, I don’t stand on ceremony. So…the children both already have active magic?”

Emerald eyes probed sharply at him for a moment. Giles met the gaze squarely. A moment later, and Harry gave Giles a nod before answering indirectly. “Lily, sweetheart, will you show Mr. Giles what I taught you?”

The toddler peeked at the Watcher, then lifted a tiny hand, palm facing up. Pure, shimmering white light glowed above it, gathering to form itself into a nice, neat little ball.

Giles felt as though the wind had been knocked out of him. Lyght Magyk – one of the oldest and most powerful forms of magic – and a three-year-old was using it!

Harry, watching Giles carefully, said quietly, “Remus told me to mention that if you need any help with…anything, to feel free to call him.”

Giles cleared his throat and took a stern hold of his shock, pushing it down firmly. “Ah, thank you, Harry.” To Lily, he said approvingly, “That is very well done.”

The smile that lit up the child’s face could have blinded him. “T’ank you. Daddy teacheded me, ‘cause don’ li’ dark.”

“Daddy TAUGHT me,” Harry corrected automatically. He glanced at his watch. “Put the magic back, Lily, we need to get home.” The little girl closed her finger around the ball of light, and it vanished as though it had never been. “Shall I give you our new phone number, Mr. Giles? That way you can speak to Remus yourself tonight, if you wish.”

Giles had the feeling he was going to be doing a lot of blinking around this boy. “Ah, yes, please.” He retrieved a pad of post-it notes and a pen, and Harry quickly scrawled a number on it. “It was a pleasure meeting you, Mr. Potter. And the two of you,” he added smiling at both Lily and the quiet Jeremiah, who both smiled back.
