After the commercial ended Xander peered into the darkness. He nudged his fiance. “What,” she whispered.

“People are staring,” he said.

Vi glanced around the dim movie theater nervously. “Do I have something on my face?”

“No, it’s my eyepatch,” Xander quietly replied.

Vi glowered. “Really, that is so rude,” she whispered harshly.

“Kidding,” Xander said. “But I think you’ve been recognized.”

When Vi glanced around again she realized Xander was right. People stared in her direction and whispered to each other. “Stupid public exposure,” she mumbled. Then the movie started and she was able to relax.

As soon as the movie ended and the credits started to roll Xander and Vi headed for the exit, hoping to beat any would-be fans. They were not quite fast enough, as a young boy pulled his sheepish-looking mother towards the couple. The child looked up at Vi and cocked his head. “Are you the lady in the commercial?”

Vi knelt down so the tyke didn’t have to look up so far. “Yes, I am,” she said.

“My mommy says Diet Coke eats holes in your brain.”

Vi’s mouth opened and shut but no sound emerged. Xander scrunched up his good eye, considering. After a second he said, “Actually, that would explain a lot about Andrew.”
