Beyond This World

Buffy stared at the never-ending mass of white, it seemed to go on forever, light oblivion. Frowning she covered her eyes as the increasing brightness almost blinded her, her spider-sense alerting her that she wasn't alone.

He was tall, with long scruffy black hair and vivid blue eyes. His eyes were sad, something that she herself could relate to.

"We're dead aren't we."

It wasn't a question, more of a statement and the man nodded, a sad smile on his lips.

Taking her hand in his he pressed his lips to the back of it in way of greeting, the smile growing more cheeky.

When he had died he too had left behind someone that he loved. They both watched the images from the real world flash before them as they stood in this oblivion. They looked into each others past, saw each others pain and hardships.

Turning to face him Buffy knew that she had found a kindred spirit and that they would watch over their charges, make sure that they were safe from harm.

They would watch together.

And as their hands touched an electric spark of emotion ran through them and suddenly it all didn't seem so hopeless.

Afterall, they did have each other, and that was more than what most people could say.
