Summary of *Ghostbusters*

Three professors at Columbia University in New York City get fired from their jobs when their research in the paranormal turns out to be nothing. Believing in ghosts still, the three unemployed men go into business for themselves as ghostbusters. Two of them have invented proton guns complete with a nuclear power source in their backpacks that shoot out a beam of protons that trap ghosts. Business sucks at first but then, paranormal activity in New York skyrockets.

This is because an evil Sumerian god Gozer the Gozerian is making his return. The focal point is in a high rise apartment building where two tenets get transformed into the Gatekeeper and the Keymaster of the return of Gozer. As the hour draws nigh, they get turned into these really ugly hell dogs that scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. Anyway, the Ghostbusters of course have to save New York City from the evil Gozer. At the final confrontation, Gozer (spirit, not at full power) tells them that they have to choose (even in thought) the form of its permanent return. They Ghostbusters all try to think of nothing – except one of them accidentally thinks of the Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man who then, skyscraper tall, comes to kill them. The good guys win.

The theme song for the movie is “Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!” And there were two cartoon series made afterwards, the Real Ghostbusters and the Extreme Ghostbusters.
