He dreamed of her for a year before he fell headlong into the wrong portal and ended up on a spaceship in the middle of nowheresville – aka “space”. Pretty and definitely smart. A mechanic, the kind of girl that was good with her hands.

There was something to be said for a girl that was good with her hands.

She was innocent in the dreams. Not innocent as in ‘not having of the sex’, but innocent in a naïve kind of way. Like she hadn’t faced enough bad things to make her jaded.

Again – something to be said about a girl like that. A girl that didn’t go looking in the closet expecting to find the boogeyman.

“You okay there?”

Xander tossed Kaylee a goofy smile. “Course I am. Just thinking.”

“About home?”

She believed him…about the portal. They all did –now-, though not at first. Not even the captain of this “boat” (as they kept calling it), when he fell right on top of him out of thin air. No, it took a couple days for him to convince them. Basically because they had no other logical explanation for him appearing on their little “boat” when they were literally in the middle of nowhere.

But Kaylee – well, she actually asked him questions about it. About Sunnydale and Buffy and Willow –

And she cared about the answers.

His dream girl – a mechanic on a spaceship.

He’d say ‘not even in his wildest dreams’….

… but that was exactly what this was.

And he was fine with that.
