Title: Love Changes . . .
Author: Kate R.
Pairing: Remus/Dawn, Draco/Ginny
Rating: Teen I guess. FR-13
Summary: Remus reflects on a sunrise in his life.
Love, love changes everything: hands and faces, earth and sky.
Love, love changes everything: how you live and how you die.
Love can make the summer fly, or a night seem like a lifetime.
Yes, love, love changes everything, now I tremble at your name.
Nothing in the world will ever be the same.
Yes, Remus Lupin thought, Love certainly had changed him. Dancing with Dawn on the night of Ginny and Draco's wedding he was content. Meeting dawn had changed Everything for him. Finding her love had made those changes stay.
He no longer lived as he had in poverty and dirt and he was no was no longer waiting to die. Life had become worth so much more with someone to hold on to and love. Someone who loved him back and wasn't afraid of him.
Dawn held him as they danced. Resting her head on his shoulder and swaying to this song Ginny and Draco had picked. It would piss off both their families, he knew, but he and Dawn enjoyed it. Can I have this Dance? Yeah, he wanted to ask Dawn that but she had beaten him to it. She had put the ring on his finger. Solid Gold and engraved with their initials. He had a feeling Draco had helped her but he also knew better than to fight. And besides, Draco and Ginny were their best friends. No one else understood and no one else approved in the Order but Ginny Weasley and Draco Malfoy had accepted them. They lived at Malfoy Manor now, with Ginny and Draco and Percy and Narcissa. They were a team now, a family in a lot of ways; they worked on dangerous things and challenged the ministry. And everything they did was so perfectly legal, thanks to Percy's wording and knowledge that nothing could be done to them. Damn, he loved his work and his life. And time seemed to both fly and stand still.
He felt her love in every word she said, every touch of her hand, every kiss and caress. His Dawn, and she had brought the sun into his lonely life.
Love, love changes everything: days are longer, words mean more.
Love, love changes everything: pain is deeper than before.
Love will turn your world around, and that world will last forever.
Yes, love, love changes everything, brings you glory, brings you shame.
Nothing in the world will ever be the same.
He danced with Dawn as the music changed. He held her tightly and thought more on the changes she'd brought to his lonely, dead life. Before Dawn his days went by quickly, the moons the only way he really counted time. And then, one day, this bright, sunny child named for the sunrise had crashed into his life at full tilt and refused to leave it.
Of course, there had been hurt as well as joy. The anger at some people he had once considered friends that this powerful child wanted him and not Harry had hurt so much. Albus had been nasty about it. He had basically said he'd brought Dawn here for Harry to wed or bed and so make his line even stronger. Dawn had then calmly said she wanted him, Remus, and they'd walked out. When Albus had tried to stop them, he'd found out just how much 'Slayer' Dawn was. And how much magic she had from the four who'd made her. And all those tied to them. And somehow, there was even a little bit of Spike in her, she said. She suspected it was because his life thread was already tied to the Scooby Gang's so a little of him had been sued to. Also from Giles she had a bit of Ethan Rayne so walking through wards was easy as anything and no one was going to keep them chained in the Order Headquarters so her mind could be forcefully changed.
And oh, how his beautiful sunrise had turned his life around. Her love had upturned everything in his once drab life and discovered layer upon layer of color under it. Everything he had given up on was now part of his life. He drew again and Dawn sold his work for him with Draco's help. Yes he wore Muggle clothes and he had a gallery that showed his work in the Muggle world and boy did his works of fantasy and imagination sell there. And in that world that he was closed three days in a row a month wasn't seen as odd and didn't cost him business. Of course Draco and Ginny had offered to run the gallery for him if he wanted to be open those days. He was considering it because he really didn't like losing business. They'd just have to set it up so he didn't have appointments for commissions on those days.
He'd found Glory in love and shame at himself for tolerating a lot of shit in his life. Dawn had shown him he didn't have to. After all, the wizarding world didn't affect the Muggle one and with his talents he could life so well it would really be a shame to let his talents go to waste. Even Draco said beauty like he created needed to be seen. Remus' paintings and drawings decorated all of Malfoy Manor now, Narcissa taking care of the arrangement. Just as she did in his shop. She was the one who handled the lay out while Percy handled the books and Draco and Ginny occasionally modeled for him when he needed figures. Dawn would too but she was usually the one he used for the girl holding weapon. As he did Percy the male. That was because of the changes that had been wrought in Percy thanks to yet more of Albus' meddling. Wesley Wyndham Pryce, Albus had made him become. And it had nearly killed him. He even refused to allow the scar on his throat to be removed so Albus had to face his shame. Of course that life had given them an edge against Voldemort, too. Percy/Wesley knew more about weapons and wand-less magics and how powerful they could be if used together. And in that, they had a way to control the violence because no one wanted to draw down against the dark man Percy had become. Even Albus feared looking into Percy's eyes when he got really pissed off. And the man he'd become was a friend of Dawn's who loved her and cared for her and he approved of her being with Remus so really, there was nothing to be worried about. Of course Percy refused to be turned back to what he had looked like before the spell had changed him on a molecular level. That wasn't who he was nay more, despite that he still carried that name here. Of course, to piss off Molly, they 'all' called him Wes.
Off into the world we go, planning futures, shaping years.
Love bursts in and suddenly all our wisdom disappears.
Love makes fools of everyone: all the rules we make are broken.
Yes, love, love changes everything: live or perish, in its flame.
Remus reflected as he and Dawn danced, about how she had changed all of his plans for his life. He had planned out how he would live and die and then this bright ray of sunshine had burst in and made it all seem so stupid and showed he really didn't know anything about himself or caring for himself. She had appointed herself his caretaker and had gotten him on the road to being who he was instead of who he was expected to be because he got furry once a month. Course he was also learning to call his wolf to him thanks to her help and that of her friend Oz. And since he stopped fearing his wolf he was even more powerful. And Bigger and a true wolf now when he changed instead of the half thing he sued to be. Fenrir Greyback had learned a hard lesson the last time they met. Of course that lesson came at the cost of the old one's life and Remus now led the weres but it was a lesson everyone needed to learn. Remus had beaten Fenrir's pack all to the ground and they all now accepted only him as their leader. Those who would have challenged had joined Fenrir in Death and that had upset Albus and the others as well. How could they say Harry did it all if it was obvious another were was the one who'd handled it?
Dawn had come into his life and broken all the rules he had made for himself regarding love and acceptance. She had made him see how foolish those rules and boundaries were and had systematically taken them down and apart until he was just Remus the man who saved a lot of lives. For now if any were dared go near a person deliberately they died immediately by his hand. And the ministry knew better than to interfere. To do so was to ask to die. And their laws were gone because Remus had stated plainly that if they were not people to the ministry they would not be bound by ministry laws and words. That had frightened the ministry enough that they had repealed all Anti-werewolf laws and left the governing of weres to the King of them all now. And so far, it had worked. So far Remus' own strength was enough to control all of the weres in the English wizarding world.
Oh, yes, Dawn had changed everything about him. She'd come into his life and set fire to everything that was wrong in his life. And he knew he had only two options: live or die in the flames. He'd chosen to live. And in living he was making things better not just for himself but for all of those like him who would follow the way of the wild properly. For those who did not follow the law of the wolf, there was death. For that, too, was The Way. What was sick had to be eliminated. And so he lived in the flames Dawn had brought into his life. He lived with his new family, making new from the ashes of the old and finding it a good life that left him content.
Love will never ever let you be the same.
Love will never ever let you be the same.
And nothing was Ever going to be the same again.
